4 Ways to Use Live Video on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for Your Business

Whether you’re an individual blogger or a big organization, building a social media presence for your brand is becoming an important part of the marketing mix. But building a social media audience takes time, effort, and relies on you having enough visual content to post on your networks. In the past year we’ve seen videos take off in reach and engagement, and now live videos are taking a lead. Live videos are broadcasts that happen in real time, and the results I’ve seen with my clients are amazing.

Take a look at the image below – a screenshot of Facebook post analytics for one of my agency’s clients – the top pieces of content with the most reach on this Facebook Page are (drum roll please…) live videos. And the engagement isn’t bad either.

28 Experts Share Social Care Predictions for 2017: Part 1

Social media is the first marketing channel where customers can actually talk back. This is a new concept for traditional brand marketers, who are used to being able to completely control the brand message with TV and print advertising that is akin to shouting with a megaphone. Consumers have a choice – and a voice – on social media; they don’t have to listen to brands, and they're free to “talk back”, making it a two-way conversation. This shifts the power from the brand to the consumer, and consumers today expect to be able to engage with brands wherever and whenever they want. A brand’s response (or lack thereof) plays a big role in customer satisfaction and loyalty.

I asked 27 social media and customer service experts three questions about what happened in social care in 2016 and what might be coming in 2017. Their responses – along with my own – will be shared in three different posts, starting here with the first question:

"Why do social media marketers need to care about customer service?"

11 Ways to Hack the LinkedIn Pulse Algorithm

Why do you blog? You want your content to be discovered and read by as many people as possible, right?

But often your reach is limited. You're limited by the size of your existing audience. Every day, people are bombarded with more content than they will ever have time to read. Most people are both incredibly busy and have the attention span of a goldfish (guilty on both counts!). So how do you make your content go further and make sure lots of people read your stuff?

One of the planet’s top tech sharemarket watchers, Mark Mahaney, has told a conference in the US that although the likes of Facebook and Google will continue to soak-up advertising dollars, 66 per cent of current global ad spend actually remains offline (that’s TV, print, Radio and the likes).

Mahaney, who is the MD of the Canadian-based RBC Capital, was speaking about Facebook’s future at the Business Insider’s Ignition conference in New York last week.

WPP boss Sir Martin Sorrell has revealed the global advertising giant is spending around $US70 million with social media platform Snapchat on behalf of its clients.

Speaking at the UBS Media and Communications Conference this week in New York, Sorrell also said that WPP will continue to up the ante on its ad spend with Facebook, which has been “trying to undermine Snapchat”, The Wall Street Journal reported.

“Clearly there is some concern [by Facebook] about the penetration Snapchat is getting,” he said.
