A New Coalition Of Online Advertisers Wants To Rid The Web Of Crap Ads
A broad coalition of advertisers in the US and Europe known as The Coalition for Better Ads has released a set of standards it hopes will improve the standard of online advertising and, hopefully, halt the rise of ad blocking software.
Interestingly, IAB Australia announced today that it has signed on to the group as the Australian representative.
The group’s new initiative is known as the initial Better Ads Standards for desktop and mobile web advertising and was based on research in which consumers comparatively ranked different ad experiences presented to them while they read online articles. More than 25,000 consumers rated 104 ad experiences for desktop web and mobile web.

You know things are grim in Australia’s TV business when Network Ten boss Paul Anderson (as he did last week), comes out and says the business is “under severe duress"
Ad revenues to the free-to-air (FTA) players, SBS, MCN and Foxtel fell by 2.72% to $2.2 billion in the six months to December 2016, Think TV has revealed.
It follows on from Channel Seven’s half-yearly results last week that saw profits tank 91%.

Facebook Posts 53% Jump In Ad Revenue
Facebook continues to drive home revenue thanks to mobile advertising, with the social media giant recording significant growth during the final quarter of 2016
According to Facebook’s fourth-quarter results, advertising revenue was up a whopping 53 per cent to US$8.63 billion, with mobile advertising accounting for 84 per cent of all ad revenue – up 5 per cent on the previous corresponding period in 2015.
The massive boost in ad revenue drove Facebook’s total revenue for the last quarter of 2016 up 51 per cent to US$8.81 billion.
The results come after a new report found that social platforms such as Facebook generate most of their ad revenue from native advertising, and will continue to dominate overall native ad spending through 2021 – particularly native video ads.
These statistics are a strong indication of how powerful Facebook is in regards to advertising and managing your business' branding.

Australian YouTube Ads Leaderboard: Year-End 2016
YouTube Australia has released its Leaderboard for the Year-End 2016 advertisements
But what exactly are YouTube ads and how do they work?
Video ads turns viewers into fans, and fans into new customers.
These ads are determined by an algorithm that factors in organic and paid views, watch time and audience retention.
YouTube has a range of targeting options to help people reach the right customer for their business. This is often determined by age, gender, location, interests and more.
Users have complete control over their budgeting, so they can spend what they're comfortable with.
The top three YouTube ads on Australia's End-Year 2016 Leaderboard are as follows:
- Virgin Mobile's 'Angry Santa'
- We Love our Lamb's 'Australia Day Lamb 2016, Commence Operation Boomerang'
- Samsung Australia's 'It's Time. Upgrade Now'

55% Don’t Recognise Paid Ads in Google
55% of searchers don’t know which links in the SERPs are PPC (pay-per-click) ads, according to a new survey.
Up to 50% of users shown a search engine results page (SERP) screenshot do not identify paid ads.
In February it was found that out of 1,010 UK internet users who were asked the question below, 50.6% couldn’t identify which links were ads: Do you know which links on the Google search results page are paid adverts?
This figure has now changed to 55%.

Two-Thirds Of Global Ad Spend in 2016 Was Still Offline (And Why We’re Witnessing The Rise Of Snapchat)
One of the planet’s top tech sharemarket watchers, Mark Mahaney, has told a conference in the US that although the likes of Facebook and Google will continue to soak-up advertising dollars, 66 per cent of current global ad spend actually remains offline (that’s TV, print, Radio and the likes).
Mahaney, who is the MD of the Canadian-based RBC Capital, was speaking about Facebook’s future at the Business Insider’s Ignition conference in New York last week.

The Digital Apocalypse Has Arrived! Will 2017 Be The End Of Media In Australia?
In this dramatic guest post, Andrew Birmingham, the editor in chief of Which-50.com, paints a rather dystopic picture for a lot of Australian media, predicting their ad revenues (and business models) are heading in one direction- off a cliff!
Google, Facebook. Facebook, Google, let’s call the whole thing off.
Last week the IAB released its quarterly approximation of online ad spend. It suggested that the shift of budgets into online advertising continues unabated as does the unparalleled migration in media wealth from local players like Fairfax to international dotcoms like Google and Facebook.

Testimonials
"I have been meaning to contact you and let you know that the new mailing system through Honeyweb is working great for us. It is great to look at the stats from each mail out and the fact that we can see all the emails have gone out as we were unsure how many were going out through our previous system. This has really been a positive advantage to our company and we are looking forward to introducing this process to our sister company MediPro over the next few months."
